The four principal steps when painting plant machinery

For any successful painting job for plant machinery there are FOUR principal steps to take. Here at HTS we carry all the materials you need for a perfect paint job!

1. PREPERATION. This first step is often overlooked but we couldn’t stress enough, a job well prepped is a job well done! We carry a full range of U-Pol products for bodywork repair and preparation, from Glass Fibre Kits to Onion Boards, resins to tack cloths. For the complete range, please click here.

2. PRIMER. To ensure the smoothest finish and to ensure the longevity of the job, using the correct primer is essential.

We stock two ranges of primers:

  • Oil based bange for interior woodwork only
  • High build oxide primer ange for use with machinery paints. This second range of High Build Primers has been manufactured for use with our full range of machinery paints and is suitable for both the Jotunâ„¢ Pilot II paints and the Jotunâ„¢ ACR range.

Our primers come in four colours Buff (yellow), Grey, white and Red. The easiest way to choose your primer is to select the colour nearest in shade to your final finished pain colour. For example, if you are painting a piece of JCB machinery with yellow paint the best primer to use is Buff. If it is a darker colour, such a John Deere Green, you are applying then use the darker Grey primer. All our primers can be applied with roller or brush of with a spray gun.

3. THINNERS. Although all our machinery paints can be applied straight from the can, you may choose to use a thinner. This could be if you are using a spray gun and need to change the viscosity of the paint or if you want to ‘tone’ down the colour slightly to match in with older, faded paintwork.

There are two key thinners to choose from:

  • HTP0024 Enamel Paint Thinners which is for use with our range of High Build Oxide primers and the range of Jotunâ„¢ ACR quick drying paints.
  • HTP0226 Enamel Machinery Paint Thinner. This product is for use with the Jotunâ„¢ Pilot II range of high build, high sheen paints.

4. THE FINAL COLOUR. We now hold in stock, for next day delivery, 94 different colours of paint exclusively to suit construction plant machinery. We are proud to say this is one of the most extensive paint ranges available in the UK! There are two principle ranges of topcoat paints we stock, firstly is the Jotunâ„¢ Pilot II paint. This is a high build, high gloss paint for a professional finish. This product has a longer drying time and so is typically used where the job can be undertaken under cover. The second range of paints we offer is the Jotunâ„¢ ACR paint. This is a mid-sheen, quick drying paint and has been developed especially for touch-up applications where the lower sheen blends in better with older paintwork and the quick drying time mean minimum downtime.
