The Stihl TS700, TS800 Decompression Valve (OEM 4223 020 9400) is a replacement engine component that reduces cylinder compression during starting on compatible Stihl cut-off saws. By temporarily releasing some combustion-chamber pressure while the engine is being cranked, the valve reduces the effort required to pull the recoil starter and makes starting easier.

Once the engine starts and reaches normal operating conditions, the valve closes so that full cylinder compression is maintained. The component is fitted within the cylinder assembly on the TS700 and TS800 and is designed to withstand the heat, vibration and demanding conditions associated with professional cut-off saw operation.

A faulty decompression valve can make the engine noticeably harder to start and may increase the load placed on the recoil starter mechanism. If starting becomes unusually difficult, the decompression valve should be checked along with the starter and other engine components.
