11 Facts About Atlas Copco

  1. Atlas Copco was founded in 1873 by Edvard Franckel in Stockholm – the same year as William Mcmaster Murdoch was born, Officer of the Titanic.
  2. Atlas teamed up with Diesel Motors in 1917 and formed the company of Atlas Diesel.
  3. However, in 1948 the company terminated its diesel manufacturing and the name ‘Atlas Diesel’ became ineffectual.
  4. Atlas Copco have sales bases in about 180 countries – meaning they reach 92.3% of the globe!
  5. Atlas manufacture products in more than 20 countries.
  6. In the early 1980’s Atlas Copco was the world leader in rock drilling in pneumatics.
  7. Consequently, they purchased Chicago Pneumatic Tools in 1987 to give them further reach into fast growing markets.
  8.  Atlas produced its first compressor in 1904, which was driven by steam engines!
  9. Water for All is a charity that was set up by two Atlas employees in 1984. It funds projects which empower people through access to clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
  10. Atlas Copco provide an array of products including wrenches, grinders, pneumatic drills, compressors, air receivers and filters to the British Bloodhound SSC (Supersonic Car) project, which aims to break the world record for land speed.
