The Quiet Shift That Could Reshape Plant & Tool Hire in 2026

17th February, 2026

From uptime economics to smarter fleet strategy, here’s what stood out on the floor of the Executive Hire Show 2026

By Vicky Watts - Head of Sales at HTS Spares

This year’s Executive Hire Show once again demonstrated why it remains a cornerstone event for the UK plant and tool hire sector. Although HTS Spares attended as visitors rather than exhibitors, the experience gave us valuable perspective on where the industry is heading, from supply chain evolution to the accelerating push toward smarter, more sustainable operations.

A Market That’s Moving Fast

The dominant theme across conversations was operational resilience. Hire businesses are prioritising:

  • Lifecycle cost over initial purchase price
  • Faster access to parts and technical support
  • Data-led fleet management
  • Stronger, more reliable supply chain partnerships

The focus has clearly shifted from simple equipment acquisition to long-term performance and uptime. For a business like HTS Spares, operating at the intersection of parts supply, technical support, and aftermarket reliability, these themes resonate deeply.

‘Sustainability’ Means Something

Encouragingly, sustainability discussions felt practical rather than promotional. Extending equipment life, improving repair turnaround, and reducing unnecessary replacement are now seen as both commercial and environmental priorities. As parts and technical support specialists, this aligns closely with our philosophy: the most sustainable machine is the one that keeps working.

The Aftermarket Is Front and Centre

Another clear shift is the growing recognition that after sales support directly impacts profitability. Speed of parts supply, technical expertise, and availability now carry as much weight as the original equipment specification. For us, this reinforces the fact that a machine off the road costs more than just repair time; it impacts reputation, customer relationships, and revenue. Seeing this priority echoed throughout the exhibition reinforced that the aftermarket is no longer secondary - it’s strategic.

Relationships Still Matter

Despite the technological advances on display, the most valuable aspect of attending as visitors was face to face dialogue.

Trade shows like the Executive Hire Show remind us that our industry is built on long term partnerships. Conversations weren’t just transactional, they were collaborative. There was realism, but also optimism. The hire sector remains resilient because it adapts and that happens best when knowledge is shared.

Looking Ahead

Attending the Executive Hire Show as visitors allowed us to listen, reflect, and identify where we can add the most value in 2026 and beyond. The industry is becoming more structured, more data driven, and more partnership-focused. At HTS Spares, we’re proud to be part of that conversation, and even prouder to keep the UK hire sector moving with dependable parts supply and informed technical support.
