While ECE R65 approval is not yet mandatory in the UK, Chapter 8 of the Department for Transport's Traffic Signs Manual recommends that R65-approved products are used, and a large number of UK fleet operators and insurance companies have adopted these guidelines as a matter of best practice. The Traffic Signs Manual states that any vehicle stopping on the highway for works purposes shall be equipped with either a roof-mounted flashing amber warning light bar comprising at least two independent light sources, or two independent roof-mounted flashing amber warning beacons visible through 360 degrees.
